Are the seasons completely mixed up or is it just here? I've got hydrangea and spring primroses in flower at the moment. Also tulip and crocus bulbs that I planted a couple of weeks ago, have shoots starting to appear. I'm presuming the frost will kill them and I'll get no flowers in spring. I was looking forward to spring bulb colour for the first time next spring. |

I was planting bulbs a couple of weeks ago and was amazed to find a lot of my existing smaller bulbs ( probably crocuses etc ) have got very strong shoots growing underground. I presume a couple of frosts will calm them down again !
If you're really worried about your bulbs, just cover them with some mulch to protect them. I'm sure they'll stop growing as soon as the weather cools down. |

I'll try a mulch on them, I wonder did I plant them too shallow. I planted them at a depth of roughly twice height of the bulb.
Is it normal for them to have shoots so early or is it the mild weather lately? It's the first time that I've had hydrangea flowers this time of the year. Although they did get a bad time earlier on in the year. Late fost took the first leaves, then a storm took the flowers. |
