Hi, my mother wants to buy a greenhouse next year and start to grow vegetables but I think she will probably need a course on it first. She is retired now and I was wondering is there a good course for her to do with growing vegetables and herbs etc. She would be willing to travel a bit, she lives in Co. Louth but even in the Wicklow mountains etc... Anywhere inbetween Louth and Wicklow please if you would know of a place?

Sorry for the delay in replying to your post, Abbica, if your mother lives near Drogheda, there is a Drogheda Gardening group that meets once a week and they run courses etc. They would be the best place to start. Sonaitre near Laytown, run courses on organic gardening, they would be a very good place to call in to, and look at their gardens. They are open to the public every day.

There is a grow your own meeting tonight in the Boyne Valley Hotel Drogheda at 7.30pm, if your Mother wants to go along. I heard it on the community announcements on LMFM this morning.

she should call into sonairte, which is between laytown and julianstown, so not too bad a trip for her; they have a couple of acres growing fruit and veg, and run courses; but it's late in the year for these, she'd have to wait till next year.
but you can still call in and chat to them about it.
