Wondering if 3 year old strawberry plants may have peaked their fruiting output. This year plenty of fruit but no runners whereas year 1 and 2 plenty of fruit and runners. Is runner absence a sign that these plants should be replaced ?

Sporty,
Strawberries have a three year cycle. I always tap into the shoots on the 2nd year, when the fruit crop is biggest, usually 3 per plant and dig up 3yos after they fruit. Works for me. Strawbs like a little phosphate and potash but avoid nitrogen if poss. I never let 1st or 3rd yr plants put out runners. I snip em off weekly with a scissors.

Thanks for advice.
Would I right in thinking that plants that drop their activity at reproduction runners would in following season also wind down the alternative means of reproduction - blossoms, fruit and seeds ?
