Pulled two of my turnips today to find ,to my horror , their roots are been eaten by small white maggots. Any idea what they are?

Thanks Nozebleed ,????, It is the cabbage root fly. I Googled some images and it is . They are white and they make tunnels at the base of the turnip . Sadly there is no method of prevention . |

Hi Liam c ryan,
The most effective way of stopping this pest is to prevent the female fly from laying her eggs on the soil surface. as michael said fleece would help or you could try collars around the base of each plant about 6 inches in diameter. these can be made from cardboard or carpet underlay etc. good luck. _________________ How to Garden |
