morning all, beautiful day!! ok i jumped the gun a bit yesterday was so worried about greenfly i forgot to say hello to everyone. I am new to all this gardening lark and have started a small veg patch in my garden using growrings. Am hoping for lots of advice on help on my way to becoming a bit more self sufficient. i was a bit late sowing everything this year but all looking healthy so far.
Ok so what i've got is, courgettes, potatoes, broad beans, french beans, strawberries, honeydew squash, mixed salad leaves & pak choi. Then i have a little cheapy walk in plastic green house and in there i have sweet peppers, chilli peppers and tomatoes. And the latest addition to my garden (last saturday) is 6 ex battery hens.
Am delighted that all my plants seem to be flowering so far (except the honeydw squash that still tiny). |

Welcome to the site, always good to hear of people taking up gardening.....it becomes a way of life, and a very good one too. You'll realise what nice people gardeners are as you "meet" some of the characters that contribute to the forum !
Good luck with the hens too, I'd love some myself, but better half is not keen ! |

Hello, and welcome! Did you know that there is a garden festival in Carlow 30 July to 7th August? carlowgardentrail.com. We don't have the space for hens, but they do an excellent job clearing out weeds and insects, you could try moving them around the garden in advance of planting, and the poo is very good to put in compost. |
