aggghhh....please help, this is my first year growing some veg and i've been minding them carefully everytime i find greenfly on the plants i spray it with water and washing up liquid, all was fine till last night i noticed all my plants were covered in greenfly and there were literally hundreds of them flying in the air above the plants. I sprayed the plants again and randomly sprayed the air, but more and more kept coming. As temp dropped last night the swarming ones moved away, and i sprayed my plants again, but i fully expect same problem again this evening any advice please??
I sowed some marigolds among the veg hoping to attract hoverfly, i've checked the garden and can't find any ladybirds.
Spologies if this has already been covered, but i couldn't find it. I'm on my way out now to throw some chopped garlic around the plants. |

thank you so much for your reply, i've had a look at the thread you suggested. ok firstly i'll give you an update last night there seemed to be only a handful flying over the veg patch dunno if humidity levels were different to previous night or it was the amount of chopped garlic i threw around the plants.
yup i am a bit embarassed to admit i am a smoker, not keen on the idea of spraying the plants with "nicotine" juices though, i know it sounds ironic that i smoke the stuff but i don't want to eat it and surely don't want my kids eating it. Maybe next time (hopefully there won't be one) that i see the swarms i could just stand right under the swarm and smoke away see what happens?? |
