Hi All,
We've had a new visitor to the garden and think its a thrush but would appreciate some help confirming if it is a thrush and which breed.
Thanks

It looks like a young song thrush.
Would anyone else agree ?

Nope. Sure tis a baby blackbird just fledged. The males and females look the same when just out of the nest. Watch carefully and you'll see his parents and others of his brood if the magpies or cats don't get them. His Mammy will look like him but the fine chap with the yellow beak and jet black feathers is his Dad.
Two "thrushes" breed in Ireland. Song thrush nests in bushes and is like a light oatmeal version of yer man, but songthrushes very rarely near blackbirds which are much more aggressive.
The missel thrush which is very rare and whose habitat is open country is a bigger longer bird entirely, is VERY light oatmeal in colour and rarely sings.

Thanks for that walltowall......I couldn't decide if it could be a young blackbird or not, so I went for the safer option !
We have plenty of mistle thrushes here (middle of farmland ) which is a big thrill having come from Dublin originally when we only ever saw song thrushes.

And I don't know my mistle from my missal oops missel. Have not seen a mistle thrush over here in blighty even though it should be good for them. I think there is nothing left in the farmland for them LOL
