Try one of the following.
1.SPK Bush Wood Killer.
2.Bush-B-Gone.
3.Bush Clear.
4.Sodium Chlorate.all the above Products contain Sodium Chlorate in varying degrees,by applying directly to the Briars it gets straight to the Roots but like all dangerous products the utmost Caution is advised when being used.

Would recommend that you try pulling them out if you feel able to. There is great satisfaction in pulling them out by the roots and if you choose a day when the ground is nice and soft from rain they can come out surprisingly easily. You could also ask a loved one to stand behind you to catch you when the root gives way.! Joking aside, if you use a stout pair of gloves and grip the briars down near the base they should come out with sustained pressure.... and some prayerful invocations.

Use a mattock.....They get right under the roots and pull them out really easily...As mentioned, it gives a great deal of satisfaction....
