Could anyone help me identify this tree from the picture of the leaf attached.

Also Any idea what the little growths are on second pic.

The growths are little galls - the tree's response to an insect laying it's eggs in the leaf. They'll do no harm at all, so leave them alone, and don't worry.

Hi tippben,
Thanks for the info. Could I ask if said insects would likely be average harmless garden dwelling little critters or such as the dreaded whitefly.

Definitely not any kind of aphid. They don't lay eggs, but give birth to live young. What you have on the leaves are either a midge gall, or possibly a parasitic wasp, Friendly critters! Sorry I can't be more specific, but my gall identification stuff is in my father's loft in England.
