I think moving things is just part of gardening....unless you are so brilliant that you never plant things in the wrong place !
If you need to move hornbeam, it would be worth a try in the autumn, when it is dormant. The trick is to lift as much of the root ball intact as you possibly can and put instantly into a well prepared new planting hole, and water it in.
.....and wait for the spring !
