My name's Emer. I'm new to the forum and very very new to gardening but I'n the proud new caretaker of my first little allotment patch. It's in a dire state and hasn't been touched in years ...I reckon I could carve furniture from the stems of the weeds that've taken hold BUT I'm very excited about its potential. I'm hoping to tap into all the knowledge I can hereand looking forward to sharing stories |

Welcome, Emer and good luck with your new allotment. Take some photos to remind you where this new adventure started. Nothing like "before and after" photos to encourage you ! |

HeyHey fellow gardener. Of course you have alottolearn. We ALL have, so welcome to the fountain of all gardening information bartering. Where do you want to start teaching and learning? The best facility on this site is one lots of people don't even notice. It's the google search bar top right of screen.
We'll presume you have taken Sive's advice and have taken those first photos? I only learned last week how to upload shots to the forum, even though |I've been TAKING them for years. We're all of us learning, Emer and you are very welcome.
We'll presume you are, like GeronimoJess, crawling up the apples and pears on all fours? So come on, girl, give us all an update on your experiences to date. The site is short on people who just blog what they are doing.
My old father in law RIP gave me great advice when much younger. He said "Go out and dig one square yard. Turn it over, clean it up, plant something. That's a days work and a days work well done" I will not labour his admirable advice. It has served me now for 40 years.
But, you will give us that update, Emer, won't you? _________________ Retired trouble-maker. twitters @walltoall and dreams of being promoted to Pedunculate Oaker.

Failte Emer,
We all have a lot to learn no matter how long you garden and this site is a great help, I have learnt so much since I joined. Something easy to start with may be, the perpetual spinach, the cut and come again lettuce and some cabbage!! But the best way to get started is to get the soil right this year and have a look through old threads with pictures of allotments to give you ideas on layouts
What ever you do have fun and enjoy your garden!! |
