Is there a difference between non evergreen and decidious.?in a garden centre I was looking at some trees. Some were called decidious and some labeled non evergreen...

you should have asked one of the members of staff to recommend a non-evergreen tree.... but under no circumstances do you want a decidious specimen

is there a particular name for non-evergreen conifers, e.g. larch?

You could add ginko to that as well as larix

Labeling can be a bit daft sometimes...I once has a bag of peanuts that said: "Caution, may contain nuts" on the side....
