Not a great explanation for the dandelions either for the increase in population or for the early flowering. Dandelions will flower in their first year but the vast majority of the flowers we see at present are more than one year old, While the vast majority of the yellow flowered Compositae in bloom at present are dandelions there are also many others such as Cats ears, Hawkweed and Hawksbit and Hawksbeard.
