I have a large area covered with weed suppressant and wood chip. I've just noticed about 10 of these mushrooms in the garden. They look like morels but I'm not risking it Smile

They are hollow of stem and the cap is connected at the bottom.

Just wondering if anyone can identify them.

I've posted the images here. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056234258

thanks in advance.

It is definitely a morel. Hardly any fungi fruit at this time of year, and none except the morels have that "Brain" like cap. You have Morchella elata, It's not common, so if you only have 10, let them spore and spread- 10 would only make a small (yet delicious) breakfast. You're right not to chance it though, the false morel, Gyromitra esculenta, is pretty dangerous. Roger Phillips mushroom book is the best I've ever found, as you can key out the fungi using a yes/no key to check your identification.
