Epimedium x rubrum facts and information.

This evergreen groundcover perennial is easy care whilst covering any bare ground at the base of deciduous (sheds and renews leaves annually) trees and shrubs.
Epimedium also adds some very welcomed winter interest.
Its much divided green leaves start to become red tinged in autumn and remain so throughout the winter.
New growth in spring is also tinged red but much lighter. Also in spring you can expect to see starry flowers coloured crimson and yellow.
Even the smallest Irish garden will be able to accommodate an Epimedium at a height and spread of 0.3 metres (12 inches), give it moist soil and partial shade for it to thrive.
You can also grow it in full sun but the leaf colouring will be drastically reduced and to miss that would be a shame.

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Plantae
Division: Magnoliophyta
Class: Magnoliopsida
Order: Ranunculales
Family: Berberidaceae
Genus: Epimedium
