I've just sown Basil seed again and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on a constant greenfly problem I have with greenfly covering my Basil plants.
I gave up growing basil for a year because of previous infestations but as soon as I brought another basil or pepper plant into the house the infestation started all over again!
I've tried commercial sprays, washing up liquid sprays and all work to kill off an already infested plant but is there anyway to deter them from the start? |

if sowing basil seed keep the seed tray as far away from old basil plants as possible.
as plants develop watch out for the first greenfly (usually it has wings) and spray overhead with a dilute spray of wash-up liquid. Lower the temperatures and grow under dry rather than moist conditions. A broken mothball near the plants discourages greenflies I am reliably informed.

Thanks Micheal, sitting the plants on a warm sunny window ledge is probably encouraging the greenfly I guess? |
