Hi Folks,
I have discovered that i have the dreaded onion whiterot fungus. Is there any old folk remedy for this.I regard onions as a blue riband crop, and from what i hear its a persistant problem.Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks Jemo Embarassed

Sorry to hear that you have White Rot in your onions. The more definite symptoms of the disease are patches of seedling onions or closely planted sets or shallots dying off and the root base covered with white fluffy or woolen fungus. if the white fungus is missing then it is not White Rot. There are many other diseases that affect the roots of onions that are not as contagious as White Rot. There is no known cure, prevention only. Once the disease is in a plot it stays there so try and isolate the spot where it is and avoid sowing onions there in future.
