i got 4 great roses from lidls, all growing fast.too fast, with the wind and the weight the arches i bought with them from lidls fell to bits, one came apart, and the other rusted and snapped,dh has strenthened one but the rusty one is still on the ground, the roses are still ok ,i hope they survive till hubby can make a wooden one to take the weight,i`m amazed they grew so well, some stuff i bought didnt survive but these climbing roses have taken off. Confused

Hi Sal.you have a common complaint with Shop Purchased Arches, they are usually for "Show" purposes only and not intended for what you wanted. however all is not lost.I presume the Roses are now strewn on the Ground if so they are not displaying their charm.I had the same problem when I first began Gardening.Best thing to do now is to clip the Roses back to within 6" from the Ground.remove the offending Arches and get Hubby to purchase sufficient Timber (make sure its Treated) at least 4"X4" and a Sheet of 8ftX4ftX1" Steel Mesh, cut the Mesh so as to have 2@8ftX2ft,the 2ft being the Depth of your new Arch. The Height will now be approx' 6ft-6"(the remaining18"will be in the ground) by 2ft.with the Mesh secured with "U"nails to the uprights we will all be pushing up the Daisies before that Arch even thinks of falling down.PS with the remaining Mesh cut of the 8ft length secure that across the top of the Arch.
Hope that is of some help to you.
Dave.
