Hi

Firstly can I say what a great and helpful website. Thanks.

We have a new site in the Offaly. Part of our planning was to plant a native hedge on the perimeter. After talking with Coilte at the Ploughing Championships last September we settled on Whitethorn, Beech and Field Maple.

Myself and my dad planted them in approx November. The beech and whitethorn are doing great but all the field maple has done nothing and scratching the surface shows it dead inside. Anyone know why this would happen? I could understand a patch of it or if the beech and whitethorn weren't doing anything either.

We've left them in the ground in case they might renew and can't plant anything else for a few months yet anyway.

Appreciate any help.

Only just saw this. There is no reason why the field maple should have died. They may have had poor roots. If you don't replant, the others will probably fill in anyway. Mind you the maple is a nice addition.
