So I was mooching around eBay the other day, and found some interesting seeds, all totally unsuited to the Irish climate and all calling out 'buy me, buy me!'
As usual I gave in, and ended up buying some Baobab tree seeds, AKA the upside down tree. The seller claims that they can be grown as a bonsai, so I'll give this a try. Has anyone else tried growing these in the Irish climate before? I'm not so insane as to think they'll grow outdoors, I'm more hoping for a conservatory plant that'll scoot outside on hot summer days.
Oh, and this little story is the reason I bought them, total sucker I know...
Quote: | AT THE DAWN OF CREATION, EACH OF THE ANIMALS WERE GIVEN A TREE. THE BEAUTIFUL BAOBAB WAS GIVEN TO THE HYENAS, WHO, IN THEIR STUPIDITY, MANAGED TO PLANT IT UPSIDE DOWN AND ON SEEING THE BEAUTY OF ALL THE OTHER TREES, THE HYENAS REALISED THEIR MISTAKE AND HAVE BEEN LAUGHING ABOUT IT EVER SINCE. |
Below are pictures of the tree (obviously mine won't be this size...) and the flowers which are produced at night apparently.
