Thanks Sal.
Really joined as I'm looking for advice & Tips!
Currently half of the back garden is covered in decorative pepples.
But there are a multitude of giant weeds coming up thru them!
Do i need to scrape all the stones off and pull the weeds?
What can I do to prevent this again? _________________ A problem is a chance for you to do your best! |

hi Tex and welcome. im new round here my self but so far looking good and very friendly.
i had the same sort of thing in my front garden when we moved in about 3mths ago. all i did was put on some weed killer and sat back for it to work. all but a little bit left to pull out the last of the dead weeds.
i am no expert but i believe to stop this happening again it would be best to rake off the gravel and lay down a sheet (e.g. damp proof sheeting) this should stop any future growth from under the gravel when you relay it back down.

Hi texmex, whats under the gravel? If its pretty clean hardcore or crushed rock, I would say just spray it, pull out the big weeds when dead and just repeat the spray on a yearly bases to prevent them coming back (even with a weed mat you will get some weeds growing in between over time) If you do decide to put some kind of plastic barrier underneath, I would consider using a breathable sheet like Mypex so that water can still drain through and it is more durable and longer lasting than regular plastic. _________________ my creative gardening and stone art blog http://stoneartblog.blogspot.com/ |
