Hello all, have finally some time to devote to my newish garden, first on the list for the summer is this raised bank, approx 60 ft by 7ft. It faces N/W, and is shaded from above by a palm hedge, so not much in the way of sun. The previous owners of the property created this bank, fronted by old railway sleepers, to a height of about 2ft at the front and 4 ft at the back, and planted some shrubs. Please see photos attached.
However, most of the shrubs seem to be trying to climb out of the area, is this due to lack of sunlight and is there anything I can do to help? (The palms behind have to stay).
Also, the long strip behind is dry and bare, and I would like to plant something there that would prosper in that situation. (Tree ferns I particularly love, but would they suit?)
Any help would be brilliant, and I have no problem with working at it to improve the area.
Many thanks, C
