I have recently discovered a local source of free mushroom compost and was wondering if anyone has any negative experience of using this ?
For instance I believe the compost can still have mushroom spores in it....does this cause problems ?
I know it raises the pH of the soil but I don't grow acid-loving plants anyway, and garden on heavy clay, and I presume you would need to be adding tons of the stuff to affect the soil's pH.....? |

best to put the mushroom compost into a compost heap and let it rot for a year. it is better that way and more available as a plant food.

I put a 3inch layer of spent mushroom compost in the bottom of my new veg patch which was about 10 months old and covered with 6inch soil. I have planted all veg and now it is down to the worms to do the rest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ Paul. |
