Hi Guys

I've just planted an hedge of about 80% Beech/ 20% Holly and have a question. The Beech consists of bareroot plants which I am about to cut back by about 1/3, but I'm not sure what to do about the holly. The plants were in pots and are fairly vigorous and do need to be cut back a bit, but I don't want to over do it. How much should I cut them back and when?

I'm hoping for a thick hedge about 6 foot tall.

Please see photos attached.

Thanks in advance,

Tailspin.

cut back the holly to about half the height or less otherwise you will be left with a hedge that is bare near the ground. Do it immediately otherwise the upper buds will have developed too much for the lower ones to develop.
