My two medlar seedlings are doing OK. :D Someone has asked me for one of them as a swap for a selection of soft fruit bushes. Since my medlars are not grown on rootstock, and I am not sure what sort they are I am wondering:

Firstly, is my friend going to get any fruit off one because I would feel guilty if if it will not fruit...

Secondly, do I need to cross-polinate my own plant to get fruits, thus making it unwise to swap one anyway?

regarding pollination as far as i know there is no need of cross pollination. We grew one plant in 1940s and it always fruited on it's own.
