Hello everyone, I know we are coming to the end of bare root hedging season. I have three open sides around a 3/4 acrre site. I have just planted laurel on the two sides. I am hoping however to plant bamboo at the back of my site. This is south to south westerly facing. It is about 65 feet across.
What type of bamboo should I use or do you think it will work?
If so what spacing should I have?
Thank you |

A 65 feet run of bamboo will cost you a fair bit. If placed every 5 feet, you would need 14 at €40 each. Or 17 pots at 4 feet apart. 22 pots at 3 feet apart. Depends how quickly you want the screen to close up completely.
There are two types of bamboo, one that spreads at a fast rate and needs a rhizome barrier if you wish to contain it and the other is called clumping bamboo. Clumping bamboo spreads very slowly and doesn't need a barrier.
Pseudonica Japonica (running bamboo) makes a dense screen and is wind resistant.
The nicest looking (subjective opinion) is Aureacaulis something or other, (golden stemmed bamboo). (Clumper.) _________________ .
