What causes carrots to split down the side resulting in a V shaped groove. It happened to my mothers.

I believe that can be caused by too much fertilizer (especially manure) put on too soon before planting. It has to be well rotted and applied well in advance. Very Happy

OK, Thanks, I knew that caused them to fork, but wasn't sure about the split, I suppose it's from growing too fast.
