Hi, I was planning on planting red robin laurel around our perimeter, 202sqmtrs, but was told at weekend I woudl be better off planting green as green as thicker branches and you won't get gaps in the bush which would happen with red robin. Is this true and would I be better off just going with green laurel? |

Hi Abbica,
I have both in a hedge and although the red robin does tend to grow a bit leggy if let grow unchecked it is a lovely shrub and would be a pity to omit from your hedge. You could encourage it to grow bushy by regularly pinching out the growth on new shoots and if privacy is a concern don't go for a 50/50 split, instead just put in a few red robins here and there to draw the eye to a splash of colour. Best of luck with it. |
