Hi all.... names Kieran and new to the forum.. I've been living in cork city for 20 years and been growing veg in my back garden in my rented flat for 5 years, so with the way house prices are I've bought a cottage on half an acre. my first plan is to replace a wooded fence with a natural hedge (hawthorn, birch, fushia, wildrose) and then start working on a veg garden and using the rest to grow wild flowers. Any tips are always welcome.. looking forward to sharing adventures in gardening Smile

Welcome Kieran. Congratulations on buying your half acre of heaven ( and the cottage of course! ) I hope you'll be very happy there and we will all be looking forward to seeing some "before" and "after" photos of your garden. I love the sound of all your plans already. Good luck.

HI KIERAN
HAPPY NEW HOME. GOOD LUCK WITH THE GARDEN. IT MAY BE WORTH CONSIDERING PLANTING YOUR INDIGENOUS HEDGE BEFORE YOU TAKE AWAY YOUR FENCE DEPENDING ON WIND AND EXPOSURE FACTORS
IT WOULD AS SIVE SAID BE GREAT TO SEE SOME BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS

Congratulations on the land and cottage. It sounds very nice. What vegetables will you grow?

thanks for wishes... waiting on a call from solicitor with the key....
first step is to solariz the weeds by the wooden fence before I put any plants down... the natural hedge will be only about 3 to 4 feet high so the can grow with out to much wind damage... as for veg... well will depend on soil and when we start...
thanks again for wishes....
photos to follow after keys... Smile
