Hi
I have recently bought a house, with a well established garden, there is a rose bush in the back garden with plastic bottles tied to it. They are tied around the bottom close to the ground and are full of water, some of them have bits of cardboard in them too. There is also another bush in the front that has one tied to it too ( this isn't a rose bush)
Any idea what the purpose of these might be?
Thanks for any help!

I have heard that plastic bottles full of water stop dogs fouling the grass......I have no idea why that should be, but apparently it works.
You don't mention if the bottles have their lids on....if they don't, the water could just be rainwater and maybe they were originally wasp traps ??????

Sounds mighty spooky loostep Shocked especially the bits of cardboard in them too. Would love to see a pic or two as I am really curious about this. Are they green 7up ones?

I know someone who swears by them as a cat deterrent and also old mirrors saying the cat sees its own reflection and scampers. but the cardboard is a mystery, Voodoo maybe are there any little dolls hanging off the bush Laughing

i fail to understand the logic of 'uglifying' a plant like this.
i think i'd prefer the sight of no rose bush to one covered in plastic bottles.

Is it a red rose? because this could be a symbolic clue to the function of the bottles! Have a close look at the bits of cardboard. It might be that someone was so hopelessly love sick that they became confused as to the usual routine regarding sending messages in a bottles.
