hi
i am looking to plant some rampant growing roses in Limerick city on a wall about 6 feet high topped with about 5 foot of green metal mesh erected by the corporation to keep unwanted visitors out.

i've found some good varieties at future forests
bobby james
rambling rector etc

the wall/fence faces roughly n/e

can someone please tell me when is the best time to purchase/plant and the best way to promote vigorous stem growth

also what are good flowering climbers to grow through the roses and any other good defensive (preferably climbers) to plant

cheers
dave

if the plants are in containers you can plant anytime once you keep them well watered. if they are rootballed or bare root they should only be available november to early march. regarding security pyracantha is the king as a climber with white flowers in the summer and red orange or yellow berries in the winter.
