I planted two climbing roses up against a pergola thing in the front garden and one at least seems to be flying. But recently i''ve noticed a blackspot begin to appear on the leaves and then they turn brown. The book says its blackspot so does anyone have any idea how to treat the plant or are they both condemned ???

Not at all. A little tender loving care for next season and they should be pretty ok. All listed here click Blackspot on roses (Diplocarpon rosae)
