I had a mixed fern plant in my bathroom but it died. I think it dried out even tho I watered and fed it regularly.Heat from the rad?

I got a new one and want to get water retaining crystals. My question is has anyone used them? Do you push them down through the soil?

you mix it in to the soil
then water it
then plant in the soil/ compost

you must water the soil mixed with the crystal as the expand and can pop the plant out of the soil.

they are used a lot in hanging baskets
