Stunning photos, you've obviously created a beautiful retreat. I love the empty seats.....they're like an invitation to the viewer, I immediately imagined what it would be like to sit there.
Thank you, we need such encouragement after a very wet July here !

It is lovely - I bet you can't wait to go out each day! How old is the garden?

Sive, here it doesn't stop raining! I live on the north-west coast of Spain and climate is not so different from the irish west coast.

Michelle, it's true, purple is relaxing. Most of all is due to Lavandula that is also used in "aromaterapy" for its scent.

Her outdoors, I spend more time outside that inside my house!
The garden is at its third summer. Last two pictures are more recent.

Protein, I hope you can take inspiration from it.

Bye

What sort of temperatures do you get during the summer? And are you very sheltered there? I see some lovely stone walls?

Sive,
temperatures are quite mild here. During the day temperature in summer is around 20-25 degrees. In winter few times goes below 10 C (freezing is rare).
The garden is sheltered from the south wind by the hill, and from the north wind by the house, but neverthless it blows hard sometimes (it's a windy place!). The problem is that during two or three month in winter there's no sun light because of the north exposion. In summer, instead, can be extremely sunny (not this year unfortunately). That made difficult the selection of species.

I hope my english is understandable.

Till soon

Your English is fine! I'm interested to hear that you do have wind there, because your flowers look as if they are surviving very happily! My ( new ) garden is very windy.... and I am slowly learning what plants can stand up to the wind.
Your temperatures sound just perfect.

Hi Sive,
if you want to build a garden in a windy area the first you should do is to plan edges (is it the right word?). There are many plants that can be useful. Some of them even prefer a windy position. Usually they have small and hard leaves.

I have been to Ireland twice but I can't remember. Just have a look around there. I'm sure you'll find the right species.
Is it on the coast or inner land?

Bye

We're about 4 miles from the east coast, on a hill, and as it is a new garden, it has no shelter yet....but we've started planting trees and hedges. Unfortunately, if we grow tall shelter-belts, we will lose all our glorious views too....but we can't have everything!
But I know what you mean about planning the "edges"....I am learning slowly what seems to be happy in the wind. I know it won't happen overnight. But photos like yours are wonderfully inspiring !
