hi there, my wife just bought me three growing kits from aldi.A lemon plant, orange plant and a monkey nut!! any advice appreciated as i'm a novice. I'm presuming they will have to be in big pots indoors to survive our harsh winter in the west. |

The lemon and orange will take years to grow to any height and produce, but hey! the fun is in growing them. You'd be better growing them indoors at least for this year, then next year in summer you can put them out during warmer weather. As they grow they can stay outside for most days, just move them into a frost-free place overnight on the coldest nights, then back outside during the day. Don't move them into a heated place then outside on a bitterly cold day, they won't take that.
The peanut is an intriguing plant to grow, I'm certain some of our US friends will keep you right, it should grow pretty quickly in a pot. I think as it matures it produces a tendril like appendage which it buries in the soil and it's on this the new peanuts are formed.
