Hi ,
need some advice about a huge dahlia that has grown in one of my containers. I have two others that are about average height.this one however is nearly 3ft tall and completely taking over with huge leaves ect. its beside a lily and some stock. do i need to try take it out or just leave it? its still growing also just wondering how big is the average tiger lily, the ones i planted in feb are absolute monsters and as i am new here would like to know if this is good ??
thanks

It depends on the type of Dahlia it is. Bedding Dahlias don't get too big, they do what you would expect, they are small compact plants for bedding schemes. However, it sounds like you have a standard Dahlia which could grow to around 5' and requires the side buds (not side shoots) to be taken out. A Dahlia of his type needs to be grown in the garden rather than a container, they are hungry plants. If you bought it as a bedding Dahlia it could be the tubors became mixed up when being packed.
Bill.
