Why is Phlox and Powdery Mildew so addicted to each other?

The two are inseperable.

All my plants are infected. Even Phlox in garden centre's appear like Amy Winehouse stumbling out the ladies toilet at a club.

I have given up spraying them. Que Sera, Sera ....

some plants are just more prone than others. A spray with Benlate or similar earlier in the year should help.
