Just to get the introduction out of the way...
Have built a house on an acre in the North East Wicklow Mountains (approx 240m/800feet above sea level), and in the process of doing the garden now the house has finished.
A sheltered quarter of an acre is earmarked for the veg plot as soon as I've got the rest planted up, and it is really what I want to get cracking on and what my main interest will be.
As for the rest, It's pretty exposed, so I've spent the last two years planting up the boundary with trees on 2 sides, whitethorn/blackthorn hedge on the other (where a balance between shelter and view has to be met!).
The border that I'm developing has been done with cuttings and hope to continue that with the greenhouse that'll be on the allotment if I ever get around to it. Also want to divide the plot and provide security for part of the garden, so my first question will be in shrubs and hedging... |
