It's very easy to prepare your own bonsai soil. It will work as well for all your house plants and will promote strong growth and healthy roots.
The secret is it has to be well draining soil.
You can go for expensive products like Akadama or Seramis which are made from clay granules but there is cheaper option
Some cat litter products are exactly this- fired clay granules.
Tescos' called 'Premium Lightweight Cat Litter' is the best soil for bonsai you can find in Ireland for the moment. It's 3,70 for the 8l bag
I use it for all my bonsai and pot plants, its very light medium, so u have to water more often, plus it's innorganic material and u need to feed your plants more too, but growth and roots health while using this product is just stunning.
I grow even orchids in it and it works very well for them too.
For cuttings and seedlings I mix it with regular compost like John Innes for seedlings and they grow healthy and vigorously.
