I'm preparing a plot for a polytunnel and was wondering about putting a groundsheet in or not.
I've dug about 14 inches down and cleaned out stones and all. I'm putting a mesh down at that level - like chicken wire, as we have a lot of hares and other creatures around which I want to prevent burrowing in. I bought a groundsheet with the polytunnel, and if I lay it will lay it just above the mesh. But I've also been storing up old newspapers and thought I could just lay that instead at that level and save the groundsheet for other use (possibly as an underlay for the area around the tunnel to keep grass and weeds at bay).
I was wondering if the layer of newspapers is a good idea, or if the groundsheet would be better? I'm thinking of raised beds so the groundsheet would be about 20 inches down. With that in mind I wouldn't want to have to dig that deep again later to add it, so want to lay it now if ever.
Any thoughts/ideas welcome!
Thanks.,

If I read you correctly, those ground sheets are actually for laying on the ground in pollytunnels if your growing container plants. It might not be a good idea to bury it. Or are you growing everything in containers?
Bill.

Ahh, that makes sense. I'd thought it was to put a weed membrane between growing ground and subsoil/weeds etc.
Money not so well spent I guess. Doh!
Thanks.
