I've just started my own vegetable garden over 250 meter squared , it's been grazed by ponnies for years, rotorvated it two months ago, i have planted peas, beans, pottatoes,cabbages, etc . The till is getting better , though i was weeding today and there are a lot of black beetles everywhere i hoe. Are they a problem ? If so how to get rid ?

I think you are finding ground beetles, which are NOT a problem, leave well alone !

Black ground beetles are predators, so you don't want to go harming them, many of them predate on snails.

Thanks Bill & Sive, i think your right the plot was absalutly full of slugs & snails afew weeks back, i've got rid of a good few every day myself but there getting harder to find now but still about.
