Is anyone on the site entering? Im part of our local residents assocation and we are going to enter the competition this year. Myself and my husband as well as some of our neighbours from the cul de sac where we live have been busy over the weekend sorting out and planting up a raised bed which was destroyed 4 years ago and never replaced due to anti socail behaviour. Myself and a few of the neighbours put some money together to do this ourselves. So my husband and some of the children from the area dug out the patch (it would be approx 24 ft*2 and we got the plants and planted it up. It took the guts of the weekend but its now looking beautiful, and no longer an eye sore any more.

I even dug up some of my plants from my garden as did another neighbour for the patch in order to keep cost down. I have to say im really proud of our work

So has anyone else spent the weekend turning an eye sore into a beautiful area. Oh we also got the children to help plant up the strawberry plants, which they were delighted to do.

Thanks for the lead Lucyloo. Seems like a mighty good idea for gardeners to get involved in and also get out more, cooperating with like-minded neighbours. It's nice to see that the Irish 'mitheall' is alive and well and has not been clawed to det by the Celtic Tiger. Yours, Lucyloo, is the first post I've read on this forum which alluded to working with neighbours to improve the general environment by wielding a spade rather than a pike!.
