Good on you Gerard. If I was at my Irish address right now, I'd be delighted to help but unfortunately I'm over in Essex for me sins. You will get help but whether you'll get hardware we'll hafta wait and see. Talk to the others on your allotment to start with. Plant something, anything to make your mark. Cabbage seed from Superquinns or whatever it's called now. A few cabbage plants?
The first time I ever planted anything on my own, (a long long time ago) I hacked up the ground with the head of a hoe. It was about 2 foot by 1 and I planted lettuce seed. I could not believe how long it took for the seedlings to appear but in a few weeks I harvested lettuce. Go for it, lad.

Gerard! Here's a link to a video on how to sow [parsnips]. It's very good and applies to almost half the gardening any of us do. It came about as a result of yer man gollum sorry I meant verge rapping my knuckles yesterday and telling me to check out "plant parsnips from seed" which I did and got this video clip ..... The sailing bit at the start is only an ad. but I bet you knew that anyway

For new gardeners like yourself and your mates it shos the simple tools we use and how to use them too. _________________ Retired trouble-maker. twitters @walltoall and dreams of being promoted to Pedunculate Oaker.
