Hey guys,
I was just given a 10 year old Miniature Japanese Maple Tree as a gift, which was a wonderful present.
However Im not sure how to take care of it. I learned to keep it out of direct sunlight. But I was wondering if adding nutrients to the soil would be advisable. I live in a wet country (which is very cold in the winter).
Any advise at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance.

Is it a Bonsai ?

if it is....

Keep it indoors

keep it in sunlight,

immerse in tepid water once a week,

find a place for it, and do not move it

feed once a month or so with bonsai food

If it is not a bonsai and just a regular potted dwarf Japanese Maple for container growing or planting out into the garden then treat it like the 5 points below
1. Give it and east facing location.
2. Shelter it from winds
3. Plant into reasonably moist soil but a soil which can drain if excessive
4. Water is applied by gardener or rain.
5. Water on a liquid fertiliser in mid-spring and again in summer.

But is it a bosai or a regular potted dwarf Japanese Maple? Posting up a picture would let me tell you that.

All that being said bonsai trees are really meant to be grow in their pots outside.
