I bought a packet of seeds for the above Root Vegetable in Lidl last year, and plan to sow them shortly.

Has anybody tried growing these before? I've never heard of this veg before. If anybody could advise if they are tasty & how they can be cooked too!

Thanks a mil.

Hi Tobar, I planted black salsify (also from Lidl) last year. I've been harvesting it occasionally since October. Easy to cook, just wash and steam or boil it. The skin comes off easily when cooked. I'm afraid I'm a bit underwhelmed by the flavour - supposed to be like oysters but not like any I've ever had!! The hardest bit is actually getting it out of the ground. I regularly dig up an 18 inch piece or so but there's still an undetermined length left in the ground. I may sow it again purely as a talking point, the leaves are quite pretty.
