I'm having problems cooking my home-grown spuds. The outside of my Colleens and Caras turn to mush before the centre is cooked and so my mashed potatoes are more like slush potatoes. Any suggestions please?

I'm having the same problem with Duke of York and/or British Queens (we've grown both and as I'm using up all the small ones first, they're a mixture of the two varieties)
I find if I don't watch them carefully, they overcook in a split second. I should really try steaming them I suppose.....
Does anyone know whether a wet summer could affect the way the potatoes cook?
