Hi I recently got this potted red oak, its only a few years old but it appears to have acorns growing on it. How is this possible? Or are these something else?

They don't look like acorns to me jdogg, instead they appear to be oak galls or oak apples.
Its the tree reacting to the eggs and larvae of the gall wasp. Inside the galls you usually find the grub or larvae.
You can just snip them off to get rid of them, but they pose no real threat.
