this started growing in my garden a year or two back, and i let it grow out of curiosity as to what it is - apologies for the poor quality photos, they were taken on a cameraphone in dim light.

Appears to be the evergreen perennial Astelia.



Another pic and/or a closeup will confirm it medieval knievel
