What Lawn feed while mulching?

I have a large lawn which was sown last year, I've bought a mulsher but the lawn is a bit patchy and could do with some fertilizer. I was wondering, is there any reason why I shouldn't use some agri granular fertilizer as I would imagine it would work out much cheaper and is probably the same as lawn feed products anyway, although I stand to be corrected?

A light shake of 18-6-12 agricultural fertiliser would give your lawn a quick acting boost now crosseyedsheep.
A light and even application because there is a danger of scorching the lawn with heavy handedness, as with all artificial fertilisers.
