How To Choose The Right Lawnmower For Your Garden Lawn
By Mark Hartshorne
It is all too easy to be confused by the myriad of lawnmowers available. The choice can seem confusing but there are some simple factors to understand which will help you to make the right decision when choosing and purchasing your new lawnmower.
Lawnmowers can be divided into a number of different types – cylinder lawnmowers, rotary lawnmowers and hover lawnmowers are the main different types.
Cylinder lawnmowers are the best type of lawnmower to cut your grass with. They produce the best cut and can give you the stripes on your lawn that you have always wanted.
Rotary lawnmowers typically cost less that cylinder lawnmowers and they cut the grass using a rotating blade.
Hover lawnmowers are very easy to push and allow you to mow the grass for side to side as well as forwards and backwards.
If you have a large lawn, paddock or orchard you will want to consider a ride-on lawnmower.
Finally, if you don’t wish to spend time mowing your lawn but would like the appearance of a freshly mower lawn each day, why not consider a robotic lawnmower. Once a object of the future, robotic lawnmowers are now a reality.
Before buying a new lawnmower it is important that you understand the different types of lawnmower that are available to you and it is always worth reading lawnmower reviews.
When choosing a new lawnmower you should always compare weight, price, safety features, ease of starting, handling and maneuverability.
Also consider the ease of clipping disposal - for example the robotic lawnmowers typically cut the grass so fine that there is no need for clipping removal.
Mark Hartshorne is a keen amateur gardener. After researching lawnmowers before making a purchase he launched a website specifically dedicated to reviewing lawnmowers, helping all gardeners stay informed when choosing their new lawnmower. That website is My Lawn Mowers.

Here are my thoughts on the lawnmower subject.
Push mowers are the cheapest and most environmentally friendly and the quietest. You have to be able to push them and they will not cut grass that has over 2 weeks growth. If you have a big lawn, you would be crazy to buy one of these, just for small lawns really.
Electric lawnmowers start easily but are slightly less powerful than petrol mowers. Their fuel is ever-present through the plug in the wall, but their electrical cable can be a cutting hazard.
Petrol lawnmowers are powerful, but have there own troubles. They need fuel, which has to be bought, often you will go to cut the lawn only to find out there is no petrol. Often the pull cord on petrol lawn mowers can be difficult to use. There are push petrols, driven petrols and best of all ride-on petrols.
Buying a ride-on lawn mower in ireland can be expensive, but they cut a large lawn quickly and are great fun to drive. Your teenagers will never refuse to cut the lawn again. |
